FMAB NEO: Compact single-phase filter for a wide current range

SCHURTER is expanding its successful single-phase filter family, FMAB NEO, with new design series P and Q. This range of single-phase filters combines high performance in a compact design. The new series extends the range of current ratings up to 60 A, with an extended temperature range from -40°C to 100°C.

The new FMAB filter family offers 3 different levels of design flexibility. FMAB NEO design N comes with two large X capacitors, that offer high symmetrical attenuation in the lower frequency range. The new filter design P contains two standard X capacitors for high symmetrical attenuation, while Design Q offers one X capacitor for good symmetrical attenuation. With the extended temperature range from -40 to 100 °C, all filters are suitable for applications used in harsh environments.

The FMAB NEO filters have a polished steel housing with a closed filter

base. The filter is thus effectively and completely shielded, regardless of how it is mounted. The filter series is particularly suitable for equipment with high symmetrical interferences, such as devices with semiconductors that control high-power equipment, including professional coffee machines, devices with water heaters, and all types of industrial electronics. The compact filters are also suitable for medical equipment and household appliances.

The filter series is fitted with plug-in connections or threaded bolts. A version with wire connections is also available. The metal flange provides easy screw-on mounting.

The series of filters is designed for current levels from 1 A to 60 A at 250 V AC according to IEC and UL standards. The FMAB NEO has ENEC and cURus approvals and is suited for applications according to IEC 60950. Versions are available with small leakage currents <80 µA (M80) or without leakage current <5 µA (M5) for medical equipment according to IEC/UL 60601-1.

Improving the design of motorised force testers

When Mecmesin started to experience supply and quality issues with the printed circuit boards (PCBs) used for the control panels on its motorised force testers in September 2015 it turned to Offshore Electronics for a more reliable alternative. What the leading testing instruments firm got was a lot more than it expected and it credits its partnership with Offshore with helping it to revolutionise the way in which it manufactures one of its best-selling products.

As well as resulting in considerable cost and time savings, the success has seen Mecmesin double the number of units it ordered from Offshore in the past year.

Mark Challacombe, Purchasing and Production Planning Manager at Mecmesin, explains, “Before working with Offshore Electronics we had been facing continuous supply and quality issues with PCB assemblies that we were purchasing from the Far East.

Offshore along with Pacer Display were instrumental in re-shoring a particular PCBA (and reverse engineering an LCD display at the same time) for one of our Compact Force gauges. Not only was this achieved in an unbelievable timescale, the quality of the product significantly improved. We also saw reduced costs and lead-times, while reject rates dropped from almost 30% to zero”

Due to the success of the re-shoring / reengineering project Mecmesin enlisted the help of Offshore for the supply of a new range of PCB’s, which were to control their new front panel design.

Knitted wire mesh EMC gasket

Knitted wire mesh is the original gasket for RFI/EMI shielding and is still one of the most cost effective solutions. In applications where low frequencies in the magnetic field are a problem the bulk of metal in knitted mesh gaskets make it the best performer. At 10 kHz, H field (magnetic field) it is possible to achieve a shielding effectiveness of 62 dB attenuation making it suitable for EMP electromagnetic pulse) applications, at higher frequencies such as 10Ghz, attenuation’s of above 45 dB can be achieved.

Knitted mesh is very versatile as it can be

knitted to any diameter from 1mm up to 25 mm as a solid mesh or over any type of sponge rubber cord or tube therefore fine-tuning its compressibility from hard to very soft. Rectangular sections are available and sponge or solid rubber with a self adhesive backing can be bonded along the length of the mesh to form an environmental seal and or act as an assembly aid.

Custom gaskets can be made from knitted mesh by fabrication or bonding the mesh to the edge of die cut rubber shapes, compression stops can be bonded into the rubber carrier to protect the gasket from over compression.

Standard wire types available are Monel, TCS, Aluminium and Stainless Steel giving the option matching wire types with enclosure materials to give galvanic compatibility.

Removable housing for high density CombiTac

connector simplifies testing With its easily removable cover providing quick access to up to 320 contacts, the new CombiTac light housing connector allows simple electrical testing in applications where there is a high density of signal contacts.

Introduced by Stäubli Electrical Connectors, formerly Multi-Contact, the ergonomically designed device has a centralised spring locking mechanism that draws the connector into its socket and locks them together. The plastic cover can then be quickly removed, giving direct access to all contacts to enable troubleshooting of signal faults.

The connector is particularly suited for use in electrical test laboratories in the automotive, aerospace and defence industries, where it can provide rapid connection and testing of the large number of signal conductors that link test instruments and the units under test.

Up to 320, 0.6 mm diameter signal contacts can be housed in the connector, or there can be other combinations of signal and power contacts up to 6 mm in diameter.

The new CombiTac light housing connector enables rapid electrical testing in applications with a high density of signal contacts.

The system is adaptable and expandable, as any unused contact carriers can be used for later expansion, and the 36 coding settings can also be changed manually on site.

IP20 environmental protection is provided in the mated position, and the housing is rated for 10 000 mating cycles. The cable can be straight or side entry, with an adjustable cable clamp.

An interactive configuration tool on the dedicated CombiTac web site www.combitac.com enables engineers to build modular assemblies online, explore the final product, review assembly dimensions and request a quotation.

Stäubli http://ec.staubli.com/ Modular industrial gear units in additional sizes

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS introduces two new gearboxes for nominal torques of 15 and 20 kNm. With these latest additions to the line-up, the series now comprises 11 gearbox sizes that deliver output torques up to 250 kNm. The NORD industrial gear series offers a particularly great variety of configuration options for application- specific drive solutions. The modular NORD product range includes dual- gear setups, auxiliary drives, brakes,

torque arms, backstops, swing bases, and - as the latest special feature - extruder flanges. In addition, there are a variety of sealing options and solutions for monitoring and temperature management. The gear units can be mounted on all six sides. Gear ratios can be configured in fine increments from 5.54 : 1 to over 30,000 : 1 - with two, three, or four gear stages, and with an auxiliary primary gear stage if so required. All NORD industrial gear units feature a single-piece UNICASE housing. This ensures excellent longevity, a very high power density, compact dimensions, and high overload capacities. Combining industrial gear units with motors and drive electronics, NORD configures complete drive systems for heavy-duty operation in conveying systems, pumps, and agitators. Designated major application fields for these units include bulk handling, the cement industry, steel industry, process engineering, woodworking, sugar processing, and wastewater management.
