Horses are a defi ning characteristic of Maryland, deeply woven into the state’s heritage and history. We are an industry of more than 100,000 horses and 78,000 own- ers, employing 21,500 people and adding $1.3 billion to Maryland’s economy.
Founded over 30 years ago, the MHC is a grassroots membership-based organization with the mission to unify and serve Maryland’s diverse horse communi- ty (including equine owners and enthusiasts as well as horse-related industries and businesses) for the follow- ing purposes:
• Improve the lives and welfare of horses and horse people in Maryland
• Provide a unifi ed voice to state legislators and regulators • Improve and maintain lands related to horses • Provide a template for state-level relationships that can be executed at the county-level by MHC members
• Off er mechanisms for members across the state to share ideas and build collaborative networks
