Equiery Contractors, continued...

friendly publishing rivals, and this now-retiring publisher always ad- mired Peggy’s chutzpah, and was also grateful for a peer who “got it,” who understood the industry from a publisher’s perspective. Eventually, Peggy acquired another of Ann’s stallions, Quartermaster

by Yankee Lad (sire of Maryland’s Olympic Gold Medalist Touch of Class), who had been evented by Denny Emerson. In 2004, a fall left Peggy with diminished use of all four extremi- ties (a.k.a. quadriplegic). She still has use of a few fi ngers, and out of those few fi ngers come design magic. Although Peggy’s primary mode of transportation is now a 4-wheeler instead of 4-leggers, she remains im- mersed in the horse world, lending her talent to T e Equiery and provid- ing guidance for daughter Cass’s stable of online equine-related websites.

Kristen Barth

Ad Designer Kristen started riding at age four,

came up through McDonogh School’s riding program and showed in the Carroll,

Howard and Baltimore

County circuits throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. She has a B.A. in Graphic Design and Communications from McDaniel College and has been the graphic de- signer for the Maryland Jockey Club for 21 years, working on high pro- fi le projects such as the programs for

Black-Eyed Susan Day and the Preakness. We were thrilled that Kristen was able to help T e Equiery some on the side (we don’t really hear from her in the month prior to the Preakness!). Kristen, her husband Scott, their two daughters and three horses reside on a small farm in Sykesville, where Kristen’s primary equestrian role is as horse show mom, coach and leader of the Hoofbeat 4-H Saddle Club. Daughter Kira will enter Shepherd University next year, where she in- tends to focus her athletics on lacrosse, while high school freshman Kami is still active showing and eventing.

Cass Ingles

Web & Ad Designer/Photographer T e Equiery staff is dedicated to con-

tent; developing, creating and present- ing content, both editorial content and advertising content. We don’t burn the plates or ink the presses, nor do we write computer code. We are very good at content, and we pride ourselves with partners who are very good at delivering that content, be that partner a printer (such as Bartash Printing) or a web

designer who also happens to have an equestrian background. When a business such as ours can fi nd a partner that can professionally execute content delivery, but who also speaks horse – bonus! We found such a partner in Peggy’s daughter, Cass Ingles.

Cass was still in high school when her mother had her accident – and suddenly she was running the farm. Eventually, college called. Today, Cass Ingles is a professional graphic and website designer and front-end developer with expertise in WordPress, and fl uent in social media – all of which were critical when we overhauled T e Equiery website a few years ago. Actually, given the density and complexity of our content and the fact that we transitioned to mobile-friendly, “built an entirely new website” is more accurate, and we are still tying up loose ends of the transition. Based in Towson, Entice Design’s portfolio includes numerous main-

stream businesses as well as equestrian/animal businesses and organiza- tions, such as, but not limited to, Bowman’s Feed & Pet, Journey Well Construction, VetBilling.com, Maryland Tack Exchange, Desiderio Tranquillity Farm, Pleasant Prospect Farm, American Warmblood Reg- istry, and the Arabian Sport Horse Alliance. T ese days, Cass main- tains her connection with horses primarily through photographing them, which Equiery readers get to enjoy in our pages and on our social media. T e Equiery, and those of our clients who work with Cass, appreciate that she is able to keep pace with the constantly evolving industry of web development and is able provide us with the latest in high-quality coding standards, so we can continue to do well what we do well.
