Maryland Will Miss...

James F. Costello, formerly of Woodbine, died on January 7 at the age of 77. Costello was born in Ca- tonsville and graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore. He served in the US Army from 1962 to 1965 during the Cuban Mis- sile Crisis. He was a self-employed master builder and contractor. Costello and his wife owned a farm in Woodbine where they had horses. Both Mr. and Mrs. Costello were foxhunters.

Dressage rider and trainer Teresa Butta-Stanton passed away on December 31, 2019. She was 44. Butta-Stanton was a Maryland horsewoman her entire life. She ran a training and sales facility out of Brandywine. Over the years, she produced sev- eral top horses through the FEI levels including Helene and Piccolino.

Her most successful horse was the KYPN geld- ing Unitas. Butta-Stanton purchased him as a three-year-old in the Netherlands. He was aff ec- tionately nicknamed Johnny for famed Baltimore Colts quarterback Johnny Unitas. Together, they

represented the US at the 2006 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden, Germany. T ey placed 19th in the fi nals. In addition, she and Unitas rode two CDIs at the small tour level in 2010 and 2016. In 2008, she competed in the US

Young Horse Championships with both Rastino and Froelich. Butta-Stanton is survived by her par-

ents Joseph C. and Barbara A. Butta of Glen Burnie, a brother William “Bill” Beckett of Pasadena, a sister Kimberly A. Wayne and her husband Scott of Essex, a nephew William Beckett II and a niece Brittany Beckett.
