Survey Says... Readers Rate FHI, WIHS and Maryland Million

work suite and the food was fantastic.” Vendors and shopping options at WIHS also

got mixed reviews with the majority replying that they were somewhat satisfied. Comments included, “some are great, some not,” “shopping at WIHS is always fun, even if things are very pricey, its fun to look at all the vendors and wares!” “there used to be so many more ven- dors at WIHS. I miss all the vendors of the old days,” and “number, quality and variety of ven- dors this year was much better than in previous years. Great mix of local and national/interna- tional offerings.” Everyone who responded to our survey said

they were completely satisfied with the volun- teers and staff they met at WIHS. Most people were completely satisfied with

the facility and location of WIHS. A few were somewhat satisfied and even fewer were not satisfied. Tis question received many write- in comments, most of which related to the downtown location being a haul for many of our readers. However, this comment does seem to sum things up nicely: “Wish the venue was easier to get to, though I understand it is the WASHINGTON International Horse Show.” Te majority of survey responders thought

the ticket prices for this year’s WIHS were fair with comments like, “I think they are very

reasonable,” and “Individual seats are very rea- sonable and accessibly priced.” One person did write in that they thought the ticket prices were “too expensive.” Most responders were also completely satis- fied with the non-competition entertainment and exhibitions at this year’s WIHS. Several people commented that they loved the dressage exhibition on Saturday night and the Shetland Pony races were just as popular as in years past. Some suggestions from survey responders were to add a therapeutic riding demonstration and bring back mutton busting and terrier races. Sixteen out of the 17 WIHS attendees said

they will return to WIHS in 2020. One person wrote “maybe.” Six people took the time to write additional

comments about this year’s WIHS: “I am sad that this once glorious show has taken such a back seat. Tere is absolutely no ‘hype’ prior to the show and consequently there are no attendees… very sad.” “I just think back to the Armory (yes, many

moons ago) and even the Capital Center in Largo years ago. It seemed better then. More accessible and more offered. I didn’t mind go- ing longer into the evening. Now it’s a pretty short night...” “Love that they have a Military night and

have the Caisson Platoon attend with a Sol- dier and Klinger the Caisson Platoon horse from Ft. Myer. Klinger the horse is a beloved horse and the sales of his book go to support the TAPS program.” “Tis was the first time we came for Barn

Night, usually we come for the Puissance on Friday. Te only problem we had was we could not understand the announcer very well. So the captioning was very helpful.” “Best show of the year.” “WIHS does a really super job of getting the public excited about horse sports and especially does a great job getting the seats filled for the big classes. Barn night is well publicized and well attended which should be commended!” For photos from this year’s WIHS, see page 36 of this issue!
