ome journalists work in conditions that the rest of us can only imagine. None more so than in war. Not only do they risk their lives to tell a story but also


hopefully to inspire others. In our cover feature Anttoni James Numminen attends a journalists’ conference in Lviv. And Andre Lombard, who works for


the BBC, talks about the challenges of being an LGBTQ journalist working in homophobic countries. One of the biggest UK stories in recent years has undoubtedly


been the Post Office Horizon computer scandal. Richard Brooks, a Private Eye journalist, who followed the story from the beginning talks to Mark Fisher about his new book on the subject. Sadly, we have an extended obituaries section in this edition to


recognise some journalistic and union talents who have left us. Tey include John Bailey, former NUJ president who was treasurer during a major local newspaper strike. And I’m especially sad to include my friend David Hencke, an exceptionally talented journalist who broke many major stories for Te Guardian and did so without a trace of ego. He was welcoming and collegiate to everyone he came across and was passionate about quality journalism. Lastly, we’ve had some distribution difficulties with the magazine.
