18. Employment in fisheries
Women represent 27.3 per cent of the total workforce in the fisheries sector in Africa, with the majority engaged in post- harvest and less than 10 per cent working as inland fishers and in aquaculture. Of the global population engaged in aquaculture, Africa contributed more than 10 per cent in 2012, with the fastest annual growth rate of 11.7 per cent between 2000 and 2012 (FAO 2014).
