Hook Wires: Also called shepherds hooks or crooks and kidney wires, hook wires are curved wire fittings for pierced ears which have a loop at the base to hold a decorative dropper. Some simply pass through the ear and remain exposed at the back and others have an additional hook which allows the end to be secured to form a closed loop (Safety Hook Wires).

Creoles: A Creole is a hinged hook fitting for pierced ears which can be moved up and down. The end of the hook locates in a lock on the inside face of the earring and they are almost always used for hoops or styles which have a front and back combined with some sort of continuous loop.
