Summer Strikes for BA The Woodland Trust Encourages Public To Get Involved With Online Survey

BRITISH Airway’s Heathrow check-in and ground staff have voted to take strike action in July. Organised by the GMB union, British Airway’s staff are set to take a timed walk-out in July. Announced on Thursday 23 June, 700 employees

who work at Heathrow Airport have supported calls for industrial action. The call for industrial action comes after a ten percent cut to wages was imposed during the pandemic and has yet to be reinstated. The GMB union has been calling for this ten percent

to be permanently reinstated into worker’s wages. While British Airways has offered a one-off ten percent payment to workers. It has been suggested that these strikes will be

delayed until the third or fourth weekend in July, with plans to coincide it with the beginning of the summer holidays.

ETIHAD Airways and Abu Dhabi International Airport have geared up resources and are ready to welcome 2.7 million network passengers over the summer months, following a surge in demand for global travel. Over 1.4 million passengers will depart from Abu

Dhabi International Airport, including 330,000 local joiners, with more than 1100 weekly network-wide departures.

Mohammad Al Bulooki, Chief Operating Officer,

Etihad Aviation Group, said: “As travel rebounds from the impact of the global pandemic, Etihad has witnessed a vast increase in bookings over recent weeks. With summer holidays upon us and to manage the increase in passenger numbers, Etihad has bolstered operations both locally and across our global network to ensure guests enjoy a seamless airport and flight experience.” Importantly, guests are reminded to check-in online,

use the Verified to Fly service to submit any Covid- related travel documents for prior approval, and arrive at the airport early.

JET2HOLIDAYS is helping independent travel agents boost sales, thanks to a huge campaign which has seen a Free Child Place added onto every single flight departing from the UK in June, July and August 2022. The new campaign means there are tens of thousands

THE Woodland Trust Northern Ireland has launched an online survey so the public can have their say on Mourne Park. In 2021 the Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity, announced it had purchased 156 hectares of the Mourne Park estate, including 73 hectares of ancient woodland, thanks to funding from NIEA (Northern Ireland Environment Agency), Garfield Weston and gifts in wills. Northern Ireland has the lowest percentage of tree

cover of any region within Europe, with just 8.7% cover; of which 4% are native trees and 0.04% ancient woodland. The Woodland Trust aims to protect and restore ancient woodland for nature, people and the climate. “In 2020, the woodland conservation charity created

the single largest native woodland to date beside Mourne Park, at Aughrim Hill, which now has new walking trails and car parking for visitors. The Woodland Trust wants to encourage local

people and the wider public to get involved and help them develop a destination that is fit for the purpose

of its visitors through in-person sessions in Kilkeel and an online survey. The consultation seeks input on many different factors including travel time, access points, and what activities people would like to get involved with and see on site. Dave Scott, Estate & Special Projects Manager for

the Woodland Trust Northern Ireland said “As part of our plans for Mourne Park we are running public consultations. We really want the local community and the wider public to get involved in forming our activities in Mourne Park as we value the ideas and comments from our new neighbours and from everyone who will want to visit this very special woodland. “The Mournes attract over 700,000 visitors every year

from across the Island of Ireland so the online survey will be available to visitors from farther afield to have their say, and for anyone within the local community who missed the in-person sessions.” To have your say on Mourne Park, complete
