This means that the Core Strategy now forms part of the formal Development Plan for the district and will be used in the determination of planning applications.


In addition to the Core Strategy the Council will continue to have regard to the remaining 'saved' policies from the previously adopted Suffolk Coastal Local Plan until replacement by policies in other development plan documents. Those remaining 'saved' polices from the previously adopted Local Plan are listed in Table 3.4.

Key points SP 12 Climate Change


The District Council will contribute towards the mitigation of the effects of new development on climate change by:  Encouraging and promoting schemes which create renewable energy where consistent with the need to safeguard residential amenity, the environment and the landscape.


 Minimising the risk of flooding and ensuring appropriate management of land within flood plains.


 Improving the process of estuary and coastal management, incorporating and integrating social, recreational, economic, physical and environmental issues and actions;


SP14 Biodiversity and Geodiversity


Biodiversity and geodiversity will be protected and enhanced using a framework based on a network of:  designated sites;  wildlife corridors and links;  the rivers, estuaries and coast;  identified habitats and geodiversity features;  landscape character areas; and  protected species.
