The 2009 Player of the Year Trophy, so generously presented to the club back in 1986 by Charles Betz to honour the player who, in the opinion of his or her peers, had contributed the most to the Club during the season, both on and off the fi eld of play, was awarded to Benjie Davis for
his unbridled enthusiasm both on and off the polo fi eld and most particularly whilst on the end of a microphone commentating with his dry wit and an immense sense of humour! He was up against a veteran member, Michael Ventura who might have followed his son Freddie into the history books as the fi rst father and son succession but it was not to be although we understand it was a close run thing. The prestigious trophy was presented to Benjie at the annual Player’s Awards Dinner.
