New CEO for Infineum

Infineum has confirmed that Trevor Russell will take over from Xavier le Mintier as the next Chief Executive Officer. Trevor, who has been a member of the senior leadership team since Infineum started up, will take up the role on July 1 2016.

Currently Trevor is Vice President of Sales and Supply, with additional responsibility for talent development in Asia. He is the first CEO to be appointed from within the business rather than from one of the shareholder organisations. His knowledge and industry experience mean he brings continuity and trust to all key stakeholders.

Controlling low speed pre ignition

Low speed pre ignition (LSPI) is an abnormal combustion event, which can occur at low engine speeds in smaller, turbocharged, gasoline direct injected engines. Characterised by spontaneous ignition of the fuel that starts before the spark is generated, it creates a downward force and exerts peak pressures that can exceed 100 bar. At high loads this results in very strong knock, which in the most severe cases can result in damaged pistons, broken piston rings and bent connecting rods. Insight looks at how the careful collection and analysis of LSPI data could be used to help in its control.

Driving down viscosity Tightening CO2

emissions legislation means the automotive industry

is looking for ways to further improve vehicle efficiency. The fuel economy gains that can be realised from using thinner engine oils means we can expect the shift to lower viscosity to continue. While lubricant viscosity grade trends are hard to predict, this article looks at the forecasts for passenger cars and commercial vehicles in Asia and North America and examines the impacts these trends might have on base stock demand.

Read Article > No let up on lubricity

The fuels market is becoming more complex as vehicle technology changes, diesel fuel sulphur levels continue to fall and the global movement of fuels increases. This means it is vital for refiners to ensure the fuels they produce are fit for purpose and appropriate for use across regions. Insight explores how lubricity additives can be used so that fuels meet regional specifications, allowing growth markets to be served, and are trouble free from refinery to vehicle.
