PARTNERS IN EDUCATION MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER!


Partners in Education (PIE) are currently in the process of planning programming for the summer and 2017-2018 academic year. With the funding challenges facing our local districts, PIE will play a role in providing support in areas where resources are stretched. Success for all students, cradle to career remains the focus of the partners.


This spring, PIE (in cooperation with representatives from the regional universities, Murray State College and the University Center) will provide assistance with completion of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) that is a required component


for most scholarship applications. The specific time and locations will be provided by the districts beginning next week.


The inaugural Eighth Grade Career Exploration Day will be held later this spring. This event, in conjunction with the Southern Oklahoma Workforce Board will allow students to receive information on a variety of career paths, as well as an opportunity to meet with community members that are working in areas of interest to the students.

March 20, 2017, Cynthia Pickens joined PIE as the Executive Director. Cynthia is no stranger, having retired from a career as the Carter County Clerk. In addition, she was a fixture at the YMCA coordinating youth sports programming. Since retirement, Cynthia stepped up on very


short notice, and coordinated the Summer Camp Program last summer that served over 275 children. In addition to her activities with children, Cynthia is a counselor, serving the needs of those who are struggling in their lives. She is very passionate about our children and has interacted with our youth her entire career.
