Does Your Helmet Meet The U.S. Army’s Stringent Safety Guidelines?

The U.S. Army’s HGU56 has the most stringent safety requirements for a helicopter helmet in the world today.

The only standards for aviation helmets are developed by the armed forces. The military takes aviation safety seriously. The Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard each have organizations devoted to aviation safety. After analyzing accident data, they set safety standards and work with GENTEX to design helmets that meet those goals. There are no standards for commercial aviation helmets. Unfortunately any company can call its commercial helmet a “Helicopter Helmet” without regard to the helmet’s actual quality or performance. Since there are no commercial aviation helmet standards, and no certifying organization, the most practical way to select a helicopter helmet is to purchase a helmet approved and in use today by the U.S. military helicopter forces.
