All I hear is ‘in arrears’


No one likes to play the loan shark and we Brits in particular would rather avoid an uncomfortable conversation when it comes to anything money related, but the number one bane for landlords is late payments, or worse no payments. It’s also more common than you might think, with an average of one in seven tenants missing two or more monthly payments.


According to the Association of Residential Letting Agents, an average of 11.6% of private landlords experience rental arrears. Compare that to just 2% where payments are managed by Bairstow Eves’ credit control team.

Losing a tenant can be a tricky time. For one, you may have spent a few years getting to know them and building an amicable relationship, but much like any other separation, checkout time can be a little messy. There are the negotiations; deciding if deposit deductions are warranted. Then there is the maintenance; making it tip top for the next lodgers. You want it to be swift and clean like pulling off a plaster – but often it can pull out a few hairs too.
