Stratasys unveils F123 Series

3D printing equipment maker Stratays launched the FDM-based F123 Series machine at the SolidWorks show in the US last month, describing it as the first 3D print system to allow production of functional FDM (fused deposition modelling) parts in a design office environment. The F123 Series is

targeted at product design work groups, industrial designers, engineers, students and educators who, Stratasys believes, are not adequately served by existing product prototyping systems. It aims to “enable any user, regardless of 3D printing experience, to build durable and accurate prototypes using a range of functional FDM 3D printing materials”. The company also said it is partnering with Dassault Systèmes to provide next generation design tools to improve additive manufac- tured production parts. ❙ www.stratasys.com

Nordson acquires Plas-Pak

Nordson has bought Plas-Pak Industries, a US-based manufacturer of injection moulded, single-use plastic dispensing and packaging products including two-com- ponent cartridges for DIY adhesives and dial-a-dose calibrated syringes for veterinary and animal health applications. Privately-owned Plas-Pak

employs 150 people and operates a 14,850 m2

facility with significant capacity for

expansion at Norwich in Connecticut. Jeff Pembroke, Corporate

VP for Nordson’s Advanced Technology Systems segment, said Plas-Pak’s revenue model, proprietary technology and selling proposition “are highly complementary and consistent with our existing Nordson EFD product line”. Plas-Pak, he added, strength- ens Nordson EFD’s position in certain industrial markets while providing access to other

rapidly growing markets. Nordson’s main business is

in products and systems to dispense, apply and control adhesives, coatings, polymers, sealants and other fluids, and to test, inspect, treat and cure surfaces. It also has a plastics processing division that makes screws, barrels and screen changers. It said it will use its global presence to spread Plas-Pak’s products beyond North America. ❙ www.nordson.com

compliant exchange of data. The two organisations have worked

together to develop Industry 4.0-ready interfaces based on OPC Unified Architec- ture over the last three years. The first, Euromap 77, which interfaces between injection moulding machines and central computers or MES, was published at K 2016. The new cooperation is intended to form the basis for future projects. ❙ www.euromap.org/i40
