Z-Wave technology is found in a radio microchip and provides a communication protocol that is transmitted over radio waves. The RF chip contains a tiny bi-directional radio that handles the command and control signals that are communicated throughout a home automation network. The Z-Wave chip also contains memory capabilities that hold protocol and application information, system interface, and in the case of some advanced lighting controls, a triac control for dimming.
