GREENROAD SETS ITS SIGHTS ON FIELD

SERVICES MARKET GreenRoad, provider of driver and fleet management solutions, is setting its sights on the UK’s field service market.

In an era of deregulation and increased competition, field service companies are under pressure to win and retain customers by providing prompt, reliable and efficient services.

At the same time they have to optimise returns on fleet assets and valuable technician time, by dense scheduling and having complete visibility of the location and availability of their technicians.

Yet one aspect of a productive and cost-effective field service operation is often overlooked – road safety. Field service technicians spend on average more than a third of their time at work on the road, but few are professionally trained drivers.

SAFESITE FALL PROTECTION TAKES OFF AT

VIRGIN ATLANTIC Safesite, a supplier of fall protection solutions, has provided Virgin Atlantic with a collective roof edge protection system that ensures optimum roof top safety for maintenance and inspection teams, and complies with all relevant health and safety regulations.

Located in Crawley, ‘The Base’ is one of two Virgin Atlantic buildings that house its global HQ. The building provides training and technical facilities for cabin crews, pilots and engineers.

The building previously featured partially installed guardrails and failed demarcation systems which were not fit-for-purpose. It became necessary for the building to have a roof top safety upgrade with a complete roof protection system to enable safe access to the roof.

The costs of unsafe driving can be enormous. For a field service company, even a minor accident can result in disruption to business and customer dissatisfaction, denting a company’s reputation.

David Rodriguez, Senior Vice President, GreenRoad, said: “By putting field service engineers who lack professional driving training behind the wheel many companies are exposing themselves to the risk of dangerous, costly and reputation- ruining collisions.

Commercial property adviser, CBRE Group managed this project and contracted Safesite to specify and install a full guardrail scheme. After removing all existing guardrails, demarcation bases and chain, Safesite installed 900 Lm raked and standard KeeGuard® systems.

Stephen Earl, Project Manager, CBRE commented: “Once we became aware that the previous systems weren’t performing correctly, we wanted to ensure that the new system was compliant with regulations, provided a full safety solution and wasn’t obtrusive to the design of the building.

“Safesite is the expert in this area and as they can offer the full service it was clear that they were the right choice for this project. The system that they have installed ticks all the boxes for us.”

The KeeGuard® range includes standard vertical, raked, radiused and folding systems. The modular design features Kee Klamp® open-style fittings, which facilitate quick and easy installation of the horizontal rails and 100% recycled PVC counterweights. No welding, threading or bolting is required

“There is always the temptation for field service engineers to cut corners in order to meet their busy schedules. Yet improving driver behaviour is merely an afterthought for too many companies.”

GreenRoad’s driver behaviour mobile app is ideally suited to field service fleets because it combines all the advantages of GreenRoad’s proven wired-in Software as a Solution (SaaS) system with extreme portability. No hard-wiring is required, therefore it can be readily deployed in fleets where technicians use their own, or leased vehicles, and no time is lost with vehicles being off the road for fitting.

All that drivers need to do is download, install and run the app onto a smartphone or tablet then place their mobile device in the cockpit of their vehicle. The GreenRoad app will then continuously monitor the vehicle movement, picking up unsafe driving manoeuvres such as sharp cornering, harsh braking and sudden acceleration.

on site, which further speeds up and simplifies the installation process.

Suitable for installation on any flat roof up to a 10° slope, and compatible with concrete, asphalt, PVC membrane and felt roof surfaces, KeeGuard® can be used where a restraining wall is in place or where the rooftop is completely open around the perimeter.

The range is fully tested and either meets or exceeds current rooftop safety requirements.
