The firm competed against more than 500 other nominations in the Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice, and was presented with their trophy and certificate at a glittering presentation ceremony in the Houses of Parliament.

The family-run firm was recognised for increasing sustainability at Duo UK, following the manufacturer’s own moves to become responsible suppliers of sustainable polythene packaging.

EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN AT FLOORBRITE AFTER PRESTIGIOUS

AWARD WIN Floorbrite has won a Green Apple Environment Award in the international campaign to find the greenest companies, councils and communities.

Floorbrite, based in Sale, was awarded the accolade for helping Manchester polythene manufacturer and supplier, Duo UK achieve zero to landfill status by implementing recommendations made by the cleaning and facility company’s Waste & Environmental consultant, Trudie Williams.

CLEANERS’ BUSY START TO 2017 WITH SURGING

BUSINESS CALLS Cleaners are experiencing an extremely busy start to the year with a spike in calls, according to figures released by telephone answering service, Moneypenny.

The company’s PAs, which look after the telephone calls for hundreds of cleaners in the UK, saw a 35% increase in business calls in January, in a like-for-like comparison compared with calls in December.

The busiest day of the year for business calls to cleaners and cleaning contractors was Tuesday

8 | Tomorrow’s Cleaning

Throughout the project with Duo UK, Floorbrite’s aims were, amongst others, to reduce waste removal costs, encourage 100% recycling, achieve zero landfill, introduce full segregation of waste streams, and recover energy from waste.

Nik Wyers, Joint Managing Director at Floorbite said of the award: “We’re honoured to have received a Green Apple award two years running, and all credit has to go to Trudie’s team for their hard work and dedication to getting results.

“Trudie has done an incredible job of creating bespoke, effective solutions for businesses looking to improve their waste management streams and providing invaluable insight into small changes that can have a big impact

10th January, with a 112% increase in calls compared with the previous three Tuesdays.

“It’s encouraging to see the cleaning trade experience this surge in activity and interest so early on in the year,” said Laura Lloyd, New Business Manager at Moneypenny. “While we know the demand for their services is there, it does suggest, that although many cleaners have call answering in place, there will be many more who are letting vital business calls go unanswered – therefore missing out on customers.

“We discovered recently that 69% of callers don’t leave voicemail messages when they can’t get through to a tradesman, and will instead hang up. This could be having a huge impact on their revenue. So, given the high call volume for

cleaners this year already, plugging the gap should be firmly on their agenda for 2017.”

Zoe Brimelow, Brand Director at Duo UK added: “Trudie and the team at Floorbrite are experts in implementing green measures which save waste going to landfill – everything they recommended has had a positive impact on our own eco-credentials and sustainability targets.

“With their help, we’ve diverted 182.28 tonnes of waste from landfill, saved 3,098 trees from destruction and the equivalent to 150.66kg of CO2

As a result of the Green Apple Award success, Floorbrite has gone on to become Green World Ambassadors and have been invited to have their winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow their example and learn from their achievement.

The awards are organised by The Green Organisation, an international, independent, non-political, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
