US NAVY HIGH SPEED VESSEL USNS YUMA IS SOLA-SOLVE INDUSTRY ROUND-UP
Solar Solve Marine continues to be a successful supplier to the US Navy for its current series of Joint High Speed Vessels (JHSV) that are being built at USA shipyards. The South Shields based manufacturer of the marine industry’s brand leading SOLASAFE® roller sunscreens recently dispatched a consignment of 30 to a shipyard in the USA for USnS Yuma. It is the eighth in a series of 10 Expeditionary Fast Transport vessels that Austal USA is delivering under a contract with the U.S. navy valued in excess of US$1.6 billion.
The 30 SOLASAFE® roller sunscreens are to be installed at the navigation bridge windows to improve the crew’s working conditions, in particular to help prevent discomfort and distractions from the sun’s glare, thus creating a safer environment. They will also reject over 60% of the heat that would otherwise be transmitted through the
glass, significantly increasing the benefits experienced by the personnel, as well as helping with cost and environmental issues due to a reduced air conditioning power requirement, when they are in use.
SOLASAFE® screens were also supplied to the first 7 vessels in the series. Intended to provide transportation in shallow-draft waterways and ports, a JHSV is capable of transporting 600 short tons at least 1,200 nautical miles at an average speed of 35 knots. The ships also feature a flight deck designed to support helicopter operations and a fast-rescue boat mounted amidships on the port side. They also have airline-style seating for 312 embarked forces, with fixed berthing for 104.
Solar Solve regularly wins orders to supply Military and Government vessels all over the world with its Type Approved, extremely dependable products; especially the SOLASAFE® screen that is globally recognised as a highly effective navigation safety aid, which is guaranteed to last for at least 7 years
with little or no maintenance requirement.
John Lightfoot, MBE, Solar Solve’s chairman commented, “It has taken many years for us to build a successful working relationship with the US Military Sealift Command, US naval shipbuilders and associated outfitters that are situated along the vast 12,383 mile coastline of the USA. Military work is always so rewarding for our company. The products requested need to be the best, for the benefit of the end-users who very often put their lives at risk when performing their duties. We only supply the best of everything, including our service. Just as the people they protect depend on the quality and effectiveness of the military personnel involved; so do the military depend on Solar Solve, its products and its people.”

ALUMINIUM MARINE CONSULTANTS DELIVER MO4 TO MAINPRIZE OFFSHORE
After a record build time Aluminium Marine Consultants handed over MO4 to Mainprize Offshore this week for work as a Windfarm Support Vessel carrying both cargo, equipment and personnel out of the port of Hooksiel to the German windfarm sector on an eight-year contract with Deutsche Windtechnik on the Nordergründe windfarm.
Bob Mainprize commented “We chose Aluminium Marine Consultants because of their flexibility and the company’s attention to detail and workmanship, this now means that MO4 will start to pay back four months earlier than any other builder could offer,”
MO4 took a break from sea trials to attend Seawork where she showed off her expansive deck and cabin area, with the ability to increase to 24pax. She would require a small alteration that has been designed into the
construction and layout of the saloon. Therefore, a quick and simple change over to 24pax-a joint venture approach between Mainprize offshore, AMC and Walker Marine Design to ensure all regulations were covered in full.
With huge amounts of deck space both fore and aft MO4 can carry up to 30,000 litres of fuel or 20,000 litres of water and has provision for 4 x 20’ containers and 30t of deck cargo, and has been designed for shallow water work with a 1.4m draft.
MO4 is fitted with twin Caterpillar C32 diesel engines driving fixed pitch propellers that gives the vessel a service speed of 26 knots, even when fully loaded.
Bob added “On trials, following some fine tuning she reached a top recorded speed of 30.7kts with 12T of fuel and payload” AMC are delighted with the completion of MO4. “Mainprize Offshore are an innovative ground-breaking company,
they have an impressive track record and are respected throughout the industry. We wish them every success with MO4.”
