Earth Day ATX 2017 Moves to Huston-Tillotson University

E

arth Day Austin has formed a new partnership with Huston-Tillotson University as the hosts of Earth Day ATX 2017. After five great years at Mueller Lake Park, Earth Day at Huston-Tillotson creates opportunities to expand, diversify and engage its regional audience from noon to 7 p.m., April 22. Huston-Tillotson University is Austin’s oldest institution of higher education, founded in 1875. The school is a historically black university located in East Austin. Striving to be the green- est historically black college and university in the country and recognized for their recent sustainability efforts and programs— including the Dumpster Project and Green is the New Black— Huston-Tillotson is a thematically appropriate spot for Earth Day 2017, which is also working to reach a broader audience. “Our goal is to make this the most experiential, edu- cational and engaging Earth Day event that Austin has ever seen,” says Reed Sternberg, director at Earth Day ATX. “We are taking the best of past Earth Day events, and blending them with modern technology and interactive exhibits, then setting it all at the gorgeous campus of Huston-Tillotson.” This year’s programming will feature a wide variety of new,

interactive, hands-on learning opportunities and experiences for people of all ages, such as the Renewables Marketplace, Transportation Hub, Video Showcase and the Discovery Path. Complimentary returning favorites will include the Modern Vehicle Zone and the Tiny House Exhibits. Earth Day ATX is still accepting and booking exhibitors and sponsors for 2017. Earth Day ATX is a nonprofit organization that produces the annual Earth Day program and other events including the monthly Green Eggs & Ham breakfast networking series. Their headquarters, The Austin Green Room, is regularly of- fered as a community resource for the area’s environmental community. The organization has also welcomed the addi- tion of Brandi Clark Burton to the team as the new program manager. Natasha Harper-Madison joins the Earth Day ATX team in the role of community outreach strategist.
