With the ever increasing power demands of modern vehicles during key on/engine off diagnostic work, the risks from relying on the battery are high (it will soon be unable to maintain a safe voltage).


SOS RECOVERY AUTOMATIC RECOVERY


A battery support unit regulates the voltage from mains supply at a safe level thus removing the risk and protecting the vehicle systems.


In the past Battery Support was only necessary during extended programming but now more and more problems can be experienced with everyday tasks.


BSU’s are rated at their current output signifying the current they can deliver when required. A good BSU will provide the current ‘on demand’ avoiding demands on the battery.


The voltage level is also important. Some vehicle manufacturers specify certain voltage levels, GYS BSU’s operate by default at 13.5V but enable the user to select any voltage in the range 12-14.8V in 0.1V increments, (14.8V can be set for BMW)


Some battery chargers have a ‘supply mode’ but a good Battery Support Unit( BSU) is different as it will be able to sustain the current draw indefinitely whereas a charger may only support the vehicle for a short time.
