A Personal Message from CancerCare's Annitta Stenning I
t is an honour to be president and CEO of Cancer- Care Manitoba Foundation. Every day I marvel at the amazing work being performed at CancerCare Manitoba under the guidance of CancerCare president and CEO, Dr. Sri Navaratnam – from the front-line care providers to the background support profession- als to senior leadership.
Tremendous progress is happening here in our province in the form of leading-edge cancer research, clinical trials and patient service. We owe a heartfelt thank you to our donors because due to their support, Manitobans with cancer and their families are experi- encing a better quality of life.
CancerCare Manitoba receives core funding from Manitoba Health, and the Foundation provides as- sistance that fills essential gaps. Did you know Can- cerCare Manitoba Foundation is the only charity in Manitoba where all of the dollars raised are invested back into cancer research and care in our province? This is critical because it helps CancerCare Manitoba recruit the best and brightest cancer specialists, pro- vides critical funding to operate a state-of-the-art can- cer research centre, ensures access to clinical trials here in Manitoba and most importantly provides real hope for Manitobans and their families facing a cancer di- agnosis.
The Foundation is fortunate to be surrounded by
an enthusiastic community filled with generous and optimistic change-makers. Each year hope continues to grow in our province for the nearly 300 community event organizers who host top-notch bake sales, pero- gy fests, yoga retreats, band-to-band combat concerts, potato truck pulls – and so much more. The creativity, enthusiasm and innovative ideas behind these events are truly amazing.
Challenge for Life.
The community of generosity extends to partici- pants, guests and sponsors of annual signature events hosted by the Foundation. The courage and strength in our province is something that can’t be measured, but we assure you, it can be felt.
This year one powerful signature event will cel- ebrate this courage and strength at its tenth anniver- sary. Challenge for Life is an annual event committed to increasing awareness and reducing the risk of all cancers. Last year Challenge for Life went BIG. Near- ly 760 participants supported by 300 volunteers raised an incredible $975,000! For its tenth anniversary, Challenge for Life is reaching for 1,000 participants and $1 million raised. We encourage you to join the movement on June 10. Appreciation toward donors cannot be understated. The Foundation owes its lasting legacy to generous gifts that make a transformative difference. These gifts have been made through one-time donations, monthly

and annual donations, memorial gifts and legacy gifts. A legacy gift is a planned future gift given through a will or other form of designation. A bequest through your will provides an opportunity to make a major gift on your death with a significant impact, and a deep sense of joy and partnership during your life. Cancer is the leading cause of death in Manitoba
and with six-degrees of separation in our province, everyone will be touched by cancer in some way or another – whether it is through a neighbour, family member, classmate, co-worker or friend, we are all af- fected. With a full heart, I thank YOU for helping us create more together moments for Manitobans living with cancer.
I encourage you to visit
