MAKAYLA’S STORY | DAN SPERRY Sunday, July 24 | 8:30 A.M. – 10 A.M.


This powerful presentation will discuss lessons learned from the night before Christmas vacation, when Makayla Strahle was killed by a motorist “flyby” at a school bus stop. This is the story that led to the state of Wyoming providing millions of dollars to retrofit every school bus in the state with stop-arm cameras. This story is so powerful that the Idaho Department of Education has provided the training to more than 1,000 bus drivers and supervisors throughout the state. Dan Sperry, Makayla’s stepdad and a deputy as well as school resource officer for the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, shares this heartfelt story so parents, bus drivers, school districts, and law enforcement can make changes that will help keep kids safe.


CLEAN CITIES PROGRAMS: RESOURCES FOR SCHOOL BUS OPERATORS Tuesday, July 26 | 9 A.M. – 10:45 A.M.


Join the discussion as three Clean Cities Coalition coordinators join a representative from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory to discuss the tools available to school districts for identifying alternative-fuel grants as well as partnerships and opportunities for easing the technological and infrastructur al transition to green energy. During this session, leading school districts will be honored for their adoption of propane autogas. Special green fleet awards will also be given to three leading school districts.

NHTSA Child Passenger Safety Restraint Systems on School Buses *Additional fee required


Saturday, July 23 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.


This eight-hour course addresses the unique challenges of installing Child Safety Restraint Systems and utilizes the revised curriculum approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to teach the proper use and installation of CSRS on school buses. All of the requirements to participate in this course are completed on-site. Upon completion, attendees will receive 5.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Safe Kids Worldwide.
