Summer Is Just Around
The Corner The hot days of summer are upon us and Bus Air suggests that you look at all your air-conditioning systems and perform routine preventative maintenance and safety inspections.
• Formulate a maintenance schedule in your regular chassis maintenance.
• Inspect and replace all drive-belts and idler pulleys. Tis is extremely important for “in-the-loop” systems as a belt failure will result in an inoperative bus.
• Clean all evaporator and condenser coils of lint and dirt. Vacuum or flush with water; or use an aerosol coil cleaner. Dirt and dust will clog coils which inhib- its heat transfer.
• Check all mounting fasteners for compressors, mount kits, evaporators, and condensers for correct torque and assembly.
• Cycle the A/C system in the off-season to ensure system lubrication.
• Clean or replace all system filters.
• Inspect all protective shrouds and ductwork for cracks or damage and replace as needed.
• Check all air-conditioning hoses for signs of rubbing or deterioration. Repair as necessary.
• Check system freon pressures and air temperatures in accordance with manufacturers specification. Re- member that anyone handling 134a must have a valid MACS certification
• Check all electrical components and wiring. Remember a proactive inspection and maintenance
program will ensure that your A/C system will perform problem free for many years!
