(Castle Rock, Colorado) and Wyning Edge Friesian, Eelstje F a gorgeous
7-year-old Stallion (Boerne, Texas) work with five time Dressage Olym-
pian, Kyra Kyrklund at the United States Dressage Convention Sympo-
sium Dec 2008 in Denver, Colorado.
Nicole was, “honored to be selected to ride in the Sympo-
sium and was pleased with the very professional manner in which Ms.
Kyrklund approached the difficult task of introducing the passage to the
young horse. Eeltsje is unbelievably smart and caught on to what she
wanted in minutes. It was very beneficial for the auditors to see the result
of kindness (and sugar) in the training process.”

letter to the editor
Hi, I read the question in the November Horse Gazette about
dirt eating horses. When I lived in Dripping Springs some of my horses
ate a lot of dirt. I knew that the calcium in the soil was locked up in
a form plants could not use so I tried giving the dirt eaters dicalcium
phosphate which I purchased from the feed store for horses. It worked.
I gave them a mere 1/8 teaspoon daily in their moistened grain. When
I gave it to them they stopped eating dirt. If I stopped giving it they
started eating dirt again. I hope this works. You may find another sub-
stance which they need and is lacking from their diet. - Candace Costis,
