New this year
he air is cold and crisp and the sun shines bright, deep in the heart of the Manitoba deep freeze. It’s a time when holiday-
rested Winnipeggers make the most of a second wind and get ready to take on the New Year! Te family dinners may be well behind us, but there’s still one more celebration to look forward to, before those pristine snow banks turn to slush, and one more reason to get outside and embrace our Manitoba winter. Once again, it’s time to start rummaging through the closet for that most-prized toque because Festival du Voyageur is just around the corner. February in Winnipeg is synonymous with
golden-amber gobs of maple taffy dripping off the tips of Popsicle sticks, majestic snow sculptures beautifying city streets and kids clamouring for more playtime outside. It’s live bands, ski pants, dance parties, beard grow- ing contests, fur trade forts, voyageur sashes and caribou wine in ice glasses. For the past 47 years, Festival du Voyageur has hosted the big- gest kitchen party around and from February 17 to 26, 2017, they’re ready to deliver once again. Beside the well-known and well-loved sta-
ples – the good company, the great bands, the delicious food and that special vibe of Franco- Manitoban “joie de vivre”– there’s so much that is new for this upcoming 48th edition of the festival.
