What You Leave Behind: A Reflection from Ace Collins

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might be rich.” – II Corinthians 8:9

WME Partners & Supporters,

At the start of a new year, we tend to reflect on the events and lessons of the prior year as well as our hopes for the future. In 2016, I was grateful for God’s blessing on my life. But I also watched in sadness as cancer stole my fa- ther’s strength of mind and body, and finally took his life. Perhaps some of you can relate to my story.

Saying goodbye to my father naturally turned my thoughts to legacies. Doyle Collins was a committed ed- ucator and coach. In fact, he took the role so seriously, my father left a financial gift so future generations of young people with few financial resources would be able to attend college. He left behind a legacy of learning.

Maybe the start of 2017 is a good time to take another look at what being a Christian really means. Christian life begins with realization of the truth in John 3:16. For many, that is also where it ends. But being saved by God’s grace should not be the end of our story; it should be only the beginning.

The children WME saves are living on the edge. They have little or nothing and pray someone will value them enough to sponsor them today.

After all we are saved by grace, but our faith is defined by our works. And it is those works — acts of grace — that change hearts, lives, communities and even the world. Through sal- vation Jesus brings us into the light, but then He asks us to take that light to the world’s darkest places. World Missionary Evangelism’s mission has always been to bring light into spiritually dark places. We have found the best way to lead others to Christ and His light is to put feet to our faith by doing good works.

So here’s a question for each Christian to reflect on: WHAT WILL YOU LEAVE BEHIND? Those who have been saved should reflect Christ by showing His love, compassion and grace to those struggling in the darkness. As people who have been saved by grace, everyone of us can do something to share the grace of God with others now and in the future. Here’s just a few ways you can help:
