Why we can 'keep calm and carry on' regardless of who is the president
Editorial If anyone does not own a home,
now is the time to get into position to buy. I have a feeling that rents are going to go through the roof all over the country soon. People who do not own homes will be forced to either pay the high rent amounts, live with family or friends or become homeless. Imagine if home rental rates were to double next month. It is too horrible to even ponder.
Before G. W. Bush was elected BY ANGELA JONES
the winner of the US presidential election
I have had numerous calls since was announced.
Everyone
seems to have concerns about what will happen during a Trump presidency. On Tuesday, November 7, 2000, George W. Bush was elected president.
While there were similar concerns
about the type of president we were getting with Bush, I believe we will see some parallels while Donald Trump is president.
Hold onto your wallets, there will be more redistribution of wealth. As with Bush, the poor will be robbed to give to the rich. Some of the wealthiest industries in the country such as automotive, banking and real estate may see another windfall. Similar schemes like “cash for clunkers”, which left many Americans without affordable transportation because they gave up their fully paid for vehicle to go into debt purchasing a new one. When purchasers of new automobiles were not able to make the payments, they did not receive a bailout; the only thing they received was a visit from the “repo man.” Of course, the automotive industry later received a bailout. In other words, they received taxpayer dollars collected
from the same
people who had their cars repossessed when they could no longer make the payments.
Another sad case that arose during
the G. W. Bush era was the housing “bubble.” The word “bubble” must be a code word for the word “scam.” Is there anyone who believes that loan officers did not know that while they were not requiring documentation for loans that disaster would soon follow? Being a real estate mogul himself, I can only imagine what horrors will take place during Trump’s presidency.
president, I predicted that if he was elected, the first thing he would do was go to war with Iraq. While I can make a similar prediction for a Trump presidency, he is too unpredictable for anyone to discern which country would be first on his list to attack. I would not be surprised if he tried to kick Cuba while they are down. That is another scenario that is too horrific to imagine.
As with G. W. Bush, things
will not be all bad while Trump is president. There will be moments that will make us laugh like when G. W. Bush was attacked by someone using shoes as weapons. I said when Trump announced that he would be running for president that the entertainment value

alone was worth everything else we would have to deal with. One has to admit, there were some pretty comical moments while he was on the campaign trail. There was one instance when a woman had a baby who was crying at a Trump rally; Trump talked about how much he loved babies and did not mind that the baby was crying. He told the woman not to worry. Less than two minutes later he said “get that baby out of here...I think she believed me that I like having a baby crying while I’m speaking”.
There was another time when
he said during an interview that there were “two Donald Trumps” and minutes later, he said “I don’t believe there are two Donald Trumps.” Some have called him Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
There are more private citizens
than there are bad presidents; therefore, we will always be in control. There are laws that will protect us, if things get too out of hand. Impeachment is one of many options that could give us relief from a bad situation after January 2017. Hopefully there are enough checks and balances in place to keep us safe. Prepare for the worst, but 'keep calm and carry on.'
