Letter From the Publishers Welcome to the 2016-2017 printed edition!

It has been an extremely challenging year. The most

challenging event was the loss of a dear friend, Daved Girard. While Daved was loved by many, he still had struggles that many people in our community deal with on a daily basis. We have chosen to dedicate this year’s publication in memory to Daved Girard. We encourage you to read a poem that he wrote several years ago on the pages to follow. It really hits home for a lot of people, not only in our community, but to many others as well.

The second challenging event the year has handed us is the presidential election in November. Our advertisers are being very cautious with their spending, not knowing how the election will turn out. This is a huge issue we often hear, “I didn’t get any business,” although our website stats show differently. It is very frustrating, to say the least. Unless you enter their business by waving your arms saying “I got you out of a gay publication,” they don’t feel as though they got business. We understand that’s not how people patronize businesses and what those businesses don’t see is that you, your family, friends, and loved ones do support their business. They just may not be going in and saying where they found them. These advertisers

want to know that they make a difference, so if you are comfortable patronizing these businesses, we would appreciate if you would just give them a sign that they do matter. We did lose a few of our long time businesses this year as they feel that they have not seen much in the way of our community still using them. So we will challenge you all again, as we do every year, to make a difference. Let them know you supported them because they advertise to our community. Tell them “Thank You for their support! We are proud of who we are! We appreciate your support for us!” So be proud!

We do not just put anyone in our publication. We

do screen these businesses and if for any reason they turn out to be any way discriminating towards our community, we will take the steps to remove them from our list of safe businesses. If you have a business that you would like for us to add to our directory of safe businesses, please contact us so we can check them out.

Thank You to everyone that does advertise and support us because you are showing strength in our community. Thank You to our readers as you are why we do this. Finally, Thank You to our amazing staff and family that continues to stay with us even through the rough times. You are all amazing and we both know that we could not do this without you.

From our family to yours “Bringing Communities Together.”
