DEDICATED EFFORT BY THE PNC

FPCA’s Pastor Nominating Committee spent countless hours in their roughly two-year effort to identify and call a new lead pastor. The group held weekly meetings, and many members traveled and spent private time reviewing applications, listening to sermons, corresponding with candidates, and praying. Thanks to all members of the congregation who offered their own prayers for guidance and fulfillment of God’s will for our church.

A Look Back

Reaching the end of 2016, we look back at a year marked by transition with respect to FPCA leadership but a full- speed-ahead attitude toward ministry. Here are some highlights from the life of our congregation over the past year as we’re poised to move forward with renewed energy to spread the gospel message.

MEDICAL MISSION IN HONDURAS

A patient named Jose gave two thumbs up after receiving care for excruciating leg wounds that began with an injury 20 years ago. Providing care to Jose and many others was a team of 18 medical missionaries whom FPCA sent to Honduras from May 14 to 21. Working with a nonprofit called Serving at the Crossroads, the team included specialists in oral medicine and podiatry, along with nurses and others who put disparate skills to work in vital roles such as distributing personal-care goods and organizing medicines. It was FPCA’s third mission trip to Honduras in three years.

MILESTONES SERIES KICKS OFF

This crew working at the Conference of Churches’ Daybreak ministry launched FPCA’s ongoing Milestones in the Journey of Discipleship program, which combines hands-on ministry with elements of scripture, study, and relationships. Other events in the series have included making and delivering meals to shut-ins, clearing invasive plants at Trexler Park in partnership with the church’s Greening Creation Team and others, and picking apples to be distributed to local mission organizations (see page 8).

JACK HABERER ARRIVES

A group of church members helped Jack and Barbie Haberer move into their new home in Allentown, then unloaded items for Jack’s office at the church. The move culminated a process of vetting on both sides of the call, which was made and accepted over the summer.

On August 14, Jack preached to the congregation, which voted to elect him FPCA’s new lead pastor. He began regular preaching in September and started his position in October, with a formal installation service on Sunday, October 23.
