Jewellers Once in a lifetime
In our throwaway society it is nice to know there are still craftspeople who make fine-quality jewellery pieces.
When seeking one out, first check that they are a member of the National Association of Jewellers – visit
www.naj.co.uk. A fine jewellery purchase is not something you do every day, particularly if it is a wedding ring, which you will in all likelihood want to wear for the rest of your life.
Beware of jewellery that looks similar to pieces in other jewellers – they may look the same, but if prices are significantly different there will be a reason: maybe the stones are lesser quality, or perhaps the piece is made with hollow sections in the construction or with less precious metal. These and other factors could make a piece less durable.
Dealing with the Goldsmith / manufacturer direct has it's plus sides, even though one would think Bespoke creations are more expensive , in a lot of cases they can be made for a similar price to a high street shop purchase , but with clients knowing we have created something especially for them.
If a white precious metal mount is desired, platinum is the best choice: it is 30 times rarer than gold, naturally white in colour, harder wearing than other precious metals, and at current global prices there is only a small uplift in price compared with an 18ct white gold ring – well worth the minimal extra investment for a precious piece you will treasure for ever.
If white is not your colour choice, the next hardest-wearing gold alloy is 18ct red gold, known in days gone by as ‘rose gold’; followed by white gold alloys and yellow gold alloys.
Making a fine jewellery purchase from a craftsman should be special experience. We always invite the client to view their commission at different stages of manufacture so their completed piece is exactly what they imagined, this process could not be reproduced with a online order (or a straight shop purchase).
It is a pleasure to create beautiful family heirlooms of the future, as well as restoring those that already exist.
