Michelle Green is currently working towards a B.S./M.S. degree in electrical

engineering at RPI. She advises other STEM aspirants to “take every opportunity that you can to learn more about your field of interest and to expand your network…make sure you ask plenty of questions to those who are more knowledgeable in the field than you are.”

Lespier is a Ph.D. candidate in engineering management at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Liz credits her optimistic and perseverant attitude along with patience and an eagerness to learn and listen as key contributors. As a Hispanic woman in STEM, Liz has learned to work hard and overcome existing gaps like gender, culture, and language by always believing in herself and her passion for her work.

Sofia Kyle is pursuing a master’s degree in RPI’s Transportation Engineering department. Sofia has served as president

of RPI – American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter and as a mentor for the Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHPE)–RPI chapter. She shares that “success is not something that you can force. It comes from doing something that you love. When your work inspires you to do your best, success becomes a byproduct.”

Representing a diverse array of STEM specialties at universities across the country, these ten exceptional Hispanic students have all succeeded due to a belief in their own abilities combined with the invaluable support of their mentors, universities, and professional organizations. By heeding their words of wisdom and persevering while following your passion, you, too, can aspire to join the ranks of tomorrow’s STEM superstars!
