Dear Readers, We have a rather lovely blackbird in our garden. He’s friendly, chirpy and a champion wormer. He is also very territorial and sees our garden as his own, chasing off any other male blackbirds who come looking for food. Along with a host of other avian visitors, he’s given us so much pleasure over the last few months, partly due to his very unkempt appearance, a bad hair day doesn’t even come close! Affeconately known as Scruff, it doesn’t seem to worry him at all
‐ and he always raises a smile from visitors when they first spot him.

Nature can be heartbreakingly cruel though. We watched with delight as a duck took her four ducklings on their first waddle around the garden. Over the course of the day we fell in love with these adorable lile beings, so you can imagine our sadness the following day when going outside to replenish the bird feeders we spoed blood and feathers and just three of the four remaining. Despite our best efforts, by the end of the day a cat must have completed the job he’d started the previous night. We now understand the term ‘Sing Ducks’ ‐ too young to fly, too young to swim, they had no protecon at all. Best wishes
