The water feature Doug designed and built.

A metal channel, hidden under a Tyndal stone bench, delivers water to the pond.

Claire creates a number of containers. The wall is curved, dressed in stucco, and rises about

14 feet high, tall enough to accommodate an umbrella set over a patio table and chairs on a circular pedestal. A flour- ishing red-leafed ligularia and a planting of cool blue green lamium soften the constructed features. Claire has created a number of well-designed containers, spotted on patios and in the garden, to add height and interest throughout. Along the side of the house, a slatted wooden trellis

offers scrambling room for sweet peas, something that should be planted more often for their sweet smell, useful- ness as cutting flowers and attraction for bees. An interesting feature in near the back door is a Tower

Garden, an ingenious device that allows the home garden- er to grow an ample supply of vegetables and other edibles using an aeroponic system. The system is apparently an improved form of hydroponics. Claire has filled it with beans, tomatoes, peas, yellow squash, chard, lettuce, basil, and parsley all planted from seed. The device can handle up to 20 vegetables at one time. So far, the impression is of modernism in the garden, and
