Making seed paper is a relatively easy, albeit messy craft to make with kids. You can mix any seeds into the paper pulp that you like.

can also look pretty neat. You are limited only by your imagination. Since we were thinking of feeders that we could use as a table centre first we decided to leave a few upright and will add in herbs or flowers for colour on our Mother’s day table. We plan to put them on stands later. Younger children may not be able to

complete this craft on their own but they certainly can enjoy the beautiful birds that will come to eat or drink from their creation. Desmond loves watching the feeder to see who will visit next – the chickadees, funny nuthatches or pretty robins.

Here is what you need: Teacup and saucer Epoxy or E6000 glue Sandpaper Plastic gloves Ribbon, wire or copper cap and pipe (depending on how you decide to display it)

Option: Place birdseed in a pretty mesh bag, tie it with a ribbon and seed gift card for a perfect gift. Option: Use a wrought iron piece, paint it with spray paint and use it as a stand.

Seed Paper Project Since these gifts were not entirely kid-

friendly, the boys made seed paper gift cards to go with them. Seed paper is fun and easy to make. Choose what type of paper you want to use, we used shredded paper basket stuffing, but you can use any type of matte paper (Don't use glossy paper, like magazines). Place the paper in a bowl and soak it in water overnight or for a few hours until it is fully saturated. Put paper mix into a blender and beat

it into a pulp. Once it is well mixed you can have the kids stir in the seeds of their choice. Larger seeds work best, you can see them in the paper more clearly. If you find you have too much water place the

pulp in some cheese cloth and squeeze out some of the excess. Then the kids can fashion the paper into various shapes, we made hearts, and flattened it out into a large sheet that the boys could cut later. The paper will need to dry so do place

it on a screen if you have one or on wax paper in front of a warm vent or in the sun. Once it is fully dry the kids can deco- rate it. To activate the seeds, just place the

seed paper directly in the dirt and water it well. That's it!

What you will need: Matte paper, cut up ( use tissue paper or

plain matte paper cut into strips.) Water Bowl Seeds Blender Wax paper or screen to dry paper on. h
