fun dog show BEARSTED Fun Dog Show will take place at Bearsted Woodland Trust on Sunday, June 5. The Maidstone council initiative

is being held in conjunction with Bearsted Parish Council to raise money for Battersea Dogs Home and the Bearsted Woodland Trust. Representatives of Battersea

Dogs Home will attend, with the aim of promoting responsible dog ownership. There will be 10 classes in the

dog show, with a maximum of 30 entrants per class. Stallholders will be local dog-related businesses and charities, with catering from com- munity groups. Classes include: loveliest lady, handsome hound, golden oldie, cutest puppy, awe- some eyes, fantastic family, scruffi- est mutt, best biscuit-catcher and best dressed dog.

Clean reward

RESIDENTS who help with the beautification of Bearsted are to re- ceive a certificate. Several local people give up their

time to help keep the village clean and tidy and the parish council has agreed they should be thanked and presented with a certificate during the annual presentation of the MynnAwards in December.

Grant time THE parish council will decide on its distribution of grants at the March meeting. Any local group or organisation

that would like to make a last minute application is asked to con- tact the clerk as soon as possible.

Growing cost THE cost of renting an allotment in Bearsted is to rise – by £2 for a full plot and £1 for half a plot. This will put the annual cost of renting an allotment by the Church Landway to £34 and £41 for a plot behind The Street.

forward for possible inclusion in the village neighbourhood plan, being compiled by the parish coun- cil.

Although one of the more radical suggestions – and unlikely to be implemented – the idea came for- ward during a brain-storming ses- sion between several of the councillors and the school’s own council. Now, Cllr Paul Young is calling

on the people of the village to come forward with their own ideas – and possibly join a working party to compile a draft plan. Cllr Young said: “We want some

real community involvement in this. We want residents’ and busi- nesses ideas about how they see the future of Bearsted.” The leader of KCC, Cllr Paul Carter, has complimented the parish council on being proactive and said: “Bearsted has had more

than its fair share of growth in the past 30 years. At present, planning consent leans more towards grant- ing than refusing and is thus in the developers’ favour.” A neighbourhood plan, working

in tandem with the borough’s own local plan, gives a parish greater say in how – and where - future de- velopment takes place. Anyone who would like to join

the working party should contact the parish clerk.

say on plan BEARSTED Parish Council and the Bearsted and Thurnham Society are urging everyone to have their say on the Maidstone local plan. The draft is now out for its final consultation so it is the last chance for locals to have their say before it goes to the planning inspectorate. Of particular concern is the target

of 18,560 new homes between 2011 and 2031 and the designation of land at Woodcut Farm, near J8 of the M20, for economic development. KCC does not support the coun-

cil’s integrated transport strategy and the spokesman said: “The plan therefore cannot be said to be effec- tive, justified or positively pre- pared.” A copy of the plan can be in- spected at Bearsted Library from 9.30am to 1pm and 2.30pm to 5pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, 2pm to 6pm on Thursdays and 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturdays. The deadline for sending com-

ments is March 18. They should be submitted by email to LDF@maid- stone.gov.uk or by post to the Spa- tial Policy team, Maidstone Borough Council, Maidstone House, King Street, Maidstone, ME15 6JQ

Leader praise KCC leader Cllr Paul Carter up- dated the parish council on county council issues at a recent meeting. Cllr Carter, who represents Maidstone Rural North said hewas impressed by the proactive activi- ties of the parish council.
