MESSAGE FROM THE CEO Superior Quality Care and Patient Safety Top ASCA’s 2016 Agenda

ew Year’s greetings. I hope all of you had a successful 2015 and are looking forward to the year ahead. In 2016, ASCA is embarking on a new strategic plan that was developed with your needs and priorities in mind. The ASCA Board and staff will use this plan to guide our activities and the issues that we work on over the next three years on your behalf. Four goals form the plan’s foundation:

N

1. Demonstrate that ASCs deliver superior quality care and patient experience. 2. Assist ASCs in assuring access to patients, procedures, surgeons and sustainable reimbursement.

3. Provide products and services that offer unique member value and assist them in providing high-quality, cost-effective care.

4. Develop the organizational capacity to achieve our mission. We developed this new strategic plan over many months under the direction of our Board of Directors, with the assistance of expert planners and based on input from ASCA’s membership. Before finalizing the plan, we published these goals in draft form and invited all of our members to comment and make sure that we were focused on the right areas. In support of our first goal we will define, measure and communicate the quality of

care provided in ASCs. As part of that effort, we will work with relevant stakeholders to develop an accurate tool to capture the patient experience in outpatient settings. We also will identify and fund research to support the ASC delivery model and its rightful place in the US health care system. To attain the second goal, we will work with stakeholders—such as insurers and consumer groups—to educate potential patients about the value and quality of care provided in ASCs and educate physicians on the benefits of practicing in the ASC setting. We will continue to promote the migration of procedures to the ASC setting and educate payers on the benefits of providing care in the ASC setting. To reach our third goal, we will keep offering the rich mix of in-person and online

programs and services we offer today. That said, we will look at ways of improving these resources and identify and implement new products and services in areas where ASCA can uniquely help our members operate more effectively and efficiently. We also will establish a knowledge management system to allow our members and staff to readily access all of the association’s resources. With regard to our final goal, ASCA will create governance systems consistent with

the strategic plan and align staff with the strategic plan’s goals. We will continue to work to ensure effective stewardship of our financial resources and align our information technology resources with the strategic plan’s requirements. In addition, we will develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications plan and a member data collection and needs assessment program. Your involvement will be key to accomplishing all these goals and making any

necessary adjustments. Please continue to participate in the surveys we send you, comment on the programs and services you use, and get involved in our ASC advocacy efforts. And as always, let us know when you see room for improvement.
