Dartford Girls The FA Skills programme

The FA Skills programme started in 2007 and the current team of 158 coaches has delivered over four million child places and supported 21,000 teachers in 7,000 primary schools.

The programme’s unique child-centred philosophy has established it as the leading youth football programme in England. Its foundations are The FA’s ‘4-corner’ coaching model, developing children socially, technically, physically and psychologically, giving them more than just football skills, but life skills such as confidence, teamwork, decision-making and problem-solving. The coaching is also based on The FA’s Future Game strategy, with the aim

of developing young players who are comfortable on the ball, creative and have good game understanding.

Kent FA have four skills coaches who currently support local primary schools, their teaching staff and pupils by offering FREE curriculum time PE provision in termly blocks of work. The work aims to support children learning, but also teachers to deliver high level PE sessions based around football but with transferable skills which will suit any sports.

Sessions are planned individually to suit the needs of the pupils in each class and follow a theme of work throughout the term. The children are engaged in each lesson and given the chance to experiment, learn, create and enjoy the sessions, allowing them

Girls Learning

to develop at their own rate whilst being challenged appropriate to their own needs and abilities.

All FA Skills Coaches are fully licenced FA coaches (First Aid, CRC checked, child protection qualified) and have completed the 1st4Sport L3 supporting PE in education award. As well as this the coaches work has been afPE and Ofsted accredited for its quality and standards.

Alongside our work with Primary schools, we run a number of after school sessions at venues across the county. The Skills Centres offer children aged 5-11 the chance to work with the skills coaches, learn new skills and meet new friends in a safe, fun and relaxed environment. The venues are currently:
