Luckily for Donna, she has not been

affected too much by damage from local wildlife. However, she does comment that in an effort to keep the squirrels and chipmunks away from her purple petunias, she has covered the plants with collapsible clothes hampers to deter them. Her tasty impatiens are also guarded with wire mesh cages. In the vegetable garden area CDs are hung to reflect the sunshine as they wave in the breeze, effectively discouraging the birds. Double-sided sticky tape has been effective at keeping both squirrels and ants out of the hummingbird feeders. Donna loves bird watching. She

delights in watching her feathered guests as they drop in. Regulars include several orioles and finches, and she has even been graced by a visit from a cardinal on his way south. She provides them with sever- al bird houses around the yard but has had to resort to removing the bird feed- ers during the busiest foraging seasons to deter bears from visiting. Both Donna and Murray are happy

with the property and agree that there is not too much to change. While they admit they will

likely add a little here

and there, their next focus is “cleaning up” the clearing where their fire pit is located. K
