Favourite books for babies & toddlers... Say Hello to the Animals

At Small Steps Parenting we have been on the hunt for some books suitable for babies and toddlers. Here are some of our favourites!...

For Babies

Faces (Baby’s Very First Book) - John Fordham.

This beautifully designed high contrast book has black-and- white images that are easy for babies to focus on.

Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes & other Baby Board books - Annie Kubler.

This award winning series is a great introduction to books through well-known nursery rhymes and interactive text.

Dear Zoo lift the flap book - Rod Campbell.

This classic lift-the-flap book has been a favourite with older babies and toddlers ever since it was first published.

That’s Not My Dinosaur – Fiona Watt.

Every double page of this book features an interesting texture to feel, such as bumpy teeth or slippery flippers, as the reader explores the surface of a toy dinosaur.

The Elephant and the Bad Baby – Elfrida Vipont & Raymond Briggs

The Elephant takes the Bad Baby for a ride and they go ‘rumpeta, rumpeta, rumpeta down the road.’ They help themselves to ice creams, pies, buns, etc. All ends well as the Bad Baby learns to say ‘Please’ and his mother makes pancakes for everyone.

For Toddlers – Ian Whybrow

Look who’s hiding under those sticks. Say hello to the fluffy chicks. Follow the friendly puppy as he scampers around the farmyard saying hello to all the animals. Toddlers will love to stroke the soft, velvety animals and to join in making their noises.

The Bedtime Bear: A Pop-up Book for Bedtime – Ian Whybrow

Bedtime isn’t bedtime without a bear, but who knows where the Bedtime Bear spends his day? With flaps to lift, wheels to turn and a pop-up on every spread, follow one little bear’s adventures on his whacky way to bed!

Guess How Much I Love You – Sam McBratney

The story of Little and Big Nutbrown Hares’ efforts to express their love for each other has become a publishing phenomenon. This lovely story is one that children will ask for time and again.

A Squash and A Squeeze – Julia Donaldson

A goat on the bed and a cow on the table tapping out a jig? A wonderful, funny book that your toddler will really enjoy.
