er Calgary yard is akin to something you'd find in a landscape painting. Soft grasses, creeping thyme, lilies, roses and contrasting trees and front yard; provid-


ing the perfect framework for her home. Her back yard is beautifully hardscaped with plants occurring in colourful groupings and majestic trees providing an ideal backdrop. Perhaps it's her artistic character finding expression in the


garden, but Terri says it's actually the opposite. She finds inspiration for her paintings in her garden. In truth, it is most likely a little of both. An accomplished watercolourist and teacher, Terri is also very interested in gardening. She has an affinity for the planet which is expressed in


both her garden and her art. While Terri admits she is no expert, she is very interested in permaculture. "This is the fourth house that I've built a garden in, and each time the permaculture aspects get stronger. Each garden is better than the last. I build them, nurture and love them and then let them go to start over with a blank slate," she explains. When Terri and her husband, Geoff, moved into their

current home in 2005 they spent the first year and a half taking note of the sun and weather patterns. A lot of fore- thought went into the design of the garden. "We had other things going on as well, but this was a great opportunity to observe the natural environment in the yard," she says. By observing these patterns she was able to select trees and flowers that would thrive in the various conditions.
