Wales Manager Chris Coleman visits Mumbles Rangers - May 2014

Wales manager Chris Coleman paid a visit to Mumbles Rangers to praise the work of grassroots volunteers and urge people to nominate a club, coach or league for the Welsh Community Football Awards presented by McDonald’s.

Coleman, who won 32 caps for his country and played nearly 200 times for Swansea City, called in on a club training session which saw around 200 boys and girls from the club’s under-9s to under-12s teams take part. Chris met with the club’s coaches, passed on some training tips and took part in a Question & Answer session with players and volunteers during the visit.

Chris said, “the Welsh Community Football Awards presented by McDonald’s are all about saying ‘thank you’ to these volunteers. These people give up their free time to help young footballers and I would urge everyone to make sure they nominate one of these grassroots heroes in the awards.

“It has been a pleasure to visit Mumbles Rangers FC and I was struck by the dedication the volunteers and coaches show to football. Thanks to them, all the kids I saw playing and training had smiles on their faces which can only be a good thing.”
