SINGING SINATRA: David Alacey
CELEBRATING one hundred years since the icon was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, Frank Sinatra – The Centennial Con- cert comes to St David’s Hall on January 23. From his debut with Harry James in 1939 through the swinging golden years at The Sands during the sixties, to his final goodbye at The MGM Grand in 1994, the magic of Sinatra live in concert is cap- tured perfectly byDavid Alacey. This lavish production encap- sulates not only the wonderful music of the original legend, but also the remarkable per- sonality of the star who ruled the world of entertainment for over half a century. It includes all of the hit songs
and anthems made popular by the legendary performer. These classics along with rarer gems are performed with amazing accuracy by David Al- acey who not only sings like Ol’ Blue Eyes, but also shares his unique mannerisms, physical- ly resembles him on stage and talks like he is at the Sands in the sixties taking part in an un- forgettable evening with Count Basie and his Orchestra. He is joined on stage by the stunning L.A Showgirls, Bud- dy’s own Big Band under the direction of Paul Drakeley and guest stars including star of seven Royal Command Perfor- mances, the multi-talented An- ita Harris. Kenny Lynch com- pletes the star-studded line up.

ENTERTAINING: The Spitting Pips
WHO are you and how did you come together? We are The Spitting Pips, Zack (vocals/
guitar), Jolliffe (drums), Cameron (guitar) and Woody (bass). We’re four best mates, who have known
each other for a good part of a decade, just working class lads. We all have one thing in common, we
take influence from British pop culture, psychedelia and the genius of Anton Newcombe.
How would you describe your music style? We describe our music as acid-soul rock ‘n’ roll.
NorthWales band The Spitting Pips will play in Cardiff thisMarch, here they answer Andy Howells’ questions...
What’s been your best live experience? On our debut show we packed out our
local bar with more than 250 people. The place was dancing and grooving. On the last song it was a complete riot,
a sea of glass, soggy cables and many mates shouting their heads off.

Ruebery album celebrates risk
USUALLY, when people find sudden fame as a musician, the artist in question is the first to know about it. How- ever, this was not the case for Welshman Mark Ruebery – he is an internet sensation in In- donesia, and even has his very own tribute video. Aside from that, he also has an impres- sive fan base made up from people all over the world. Mark is currently living in Newport, but has recently travelled around the world on various different cruise ships. Mark describes his forthcom- ing album One Night, One Chance as a moment of self realisation, pushing your own boundaries and giving up se- curity. The inspiration came from the ending of a rocky
relationship, and the sudden realisation that he could do much more than the job that he had been doing for years. It gave him a new lease of life, a positive outlook and something new to strive for. The music on the album por- trays an upbeat approach to taking risks in life. In the same week his relationship ended, he quit his job, and so began the steady climb to where he is now. The first single off the al- bum, Her Smile, is a feel good, jazzy number, which is about being consumed by a moment shared with the one you love. It’s impossible to keep your toes from tapping when lis- tening to this track! l Visit:

At the moment we have enough material
to release three albums. So, I think its only fair to ourselves and
the people who dig what we’re doing to release a full-length album as soon as possible. We may do a few music videos etc, but
we are more bothered about just getting the music out there. We try to digitally give away anything we
release. But there will definitely be some tasty Vinyl and other really cool stuff along the way that people will be able to purchase.
Where can people hear your music? Our debut EP, called Acid Soul is out
now. The YouTube link to EP is

platforms.
Where can we see you live? We are playing at The Brewhouse in Cardiff on March 2.
