AIRBRIDGECARGO LOOKS TO DEVELOP ITS PRESENCE IN MAINLAND CHINA AS ASIA REGION DRIVES GROWTH

AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC), Russian’s largest scheduled cargo airline, says it will continue to develop its presence in mainland China to keep pace with demand for its network and services from customers in Asia, Europe and North America.

Its commitment came as ABC took part in Air Cargo China 2014 in Shanghai, the largest freight, transport and logistics event in Asia with some 50,000 visitors, to emphasise the importance of the region to its continued growth.

China was ABC’s first ever destination 10 years ago when it commenced operations between Moscow and Beijing in 2004. At present, the airline operates 38 Boeing 747 freighter flights a week from five destinations in China - Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Chengdu and Zhengzhou - and China generated over 70% of the 340,000 tonnes carried by ABC in 2013, its best-ever year with its load factor rising to 72%, well above the air cargo industry average.

ABC’s strong performance continued in the first quarter of 2014 with a nine per cent increase is tonnes carried in the first three months of the year to 86,500 tonnes.

One of the advantages ABC offers its customers on routes out of China is fast and seamless connectivity with its network in Europe and North America. Today, as a result of continually improving its hub operations, ABC provides over 250 weekly connections out of China to Europe, the United States and Russia with 48-hour cargo deliveries from origin to destination.

‘China is one of the world’

Denis Ilin, Executive President of AirBridgeCargo, also joined Glyn Hughes, IATA’s new Global Head of Cargo, on a conference panel discussing implications of e-freight development in general and with

a special focus on Asia, looking at how paperless air cargo transactions will reduce delivery times across the entire supply chain.

s most dynamic air cargo markets and it is at the heart of our continued growth.’

“China is one of the world’s most dynamic air cargo markets and it is at the heart of our continued growth. ABC has invested in a modern B747 fleet and continues to grow its network and improve its service levels to ensure we stay at the forefront of the outstanding growth opportunities China will have to offer for many years to come,” Denis Ilin said.
