Wheels Motoring News Evolved Yaris supermini is full of advanced ideas

JAPANESE car maker Toyota is launching its new Yaris supermini this summer, and hopes to broaden the car’s appeal with a revised range. The firm is offering more choice, more equipment options and a wealth of advanced features for on- board comfort, communications, safety and style as it launches the Yaris into an increasingly competi- tive market sector. Established Active and Icon grades

are joined by new Sport and Excel trims. The Hybrid variant can be

specified in Icon and Excel versions. Each grade has its own character,

differentiated by details such as the interior trim and materials and treat- ment of various interior and exterior elements, including the lower grille, wheels, seats, centre console and in- strument panel. High equipment levels feature throughout the range, with a leather- trimmed steering wheel, air condi- tioning and the latest Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system fitted as stand- ard from Icon grade. Climate control

is standard for all Hybrid and Excel variants. Cost options include Toyota’s Sky-

view panoramic roof, LED daytime running lights and rear lamps, rear privacy glass and a multimedia sys- tem with navigation. Sport models can further be specified with red inte- rior trim.

On-the-road prices start at £10,995

for the 1.0-litre three-door Active model and rise to £17,695 for the range-topping Hybrid model in Ex- cel trim.

World record result for quick milk loat

A SUPERCHARGED milk float secured a new world re- cord after reaching a speed of 84mph on a racing circuit. The specially-adapted vehi-

cle, sponsored by Weetabix On The Go Breakfast Drinks, beat the existing top speed for a milk float of 77mph on the tarmac at Bruntingtho- pre in Leicestershire. Complete with bull-bars,

and boasting a V8 engine, the float was crafted from a tradi- tional 4mph electric float. Ciara O’Connor, group brand manager at Weetabix, said: “What better way to deliver our new Weetabix On The Go Breakfast Drinks and acknowledge the nation’s changing breakfast habits than on the back of a world record-breaking milk float?”
