Training for a happy future... T

raining for a new vocation at Capel Manor College could lead to a range

of hands-on, flexible and rewarding careers, working with plants, trees, flowers and animals. The qualifications offered lead to a wealth of land-based careers as well as self employment as a gardener, florist, tree- surgeon or garden designer.

The College began as a horticultural training institution in Enfield back in 1968 with around 12 students. Forty five years later there are now close to 3,000 students and a plethora of subjects to choose from. Plus they are now within reach of anyone with a passion for the great outdoors with centres in east, west, south and central London as well as a 30-acre country estate and gardens in north London, Enfield.

50% of students are aged 19+ and 21% are career changers; these include professionals

escaping the rat-race and parents seeking a more flexible career to fit in with the family

timetable; as well as students with related backgrounds such as interior designers and landscape architects and hobbyists wanting to turn their passion into a career.

You can go along to advice evenings and open days throughout the year and meet their industry trained tutors and see their facilities which include a retail floristry shop, design studios, national plant collections and horticultural tools and machinery. There are also FREE six week taster courses offered at regular intervals at some college centres, for those that want to try their hand at something new. There is only a £40 registration fee to pay.
