1890 land-grant institution, Alabama A&M University (AAMU) functions as a teaching, research and public service institution, including extension. College/School Overview The College of Engineering,
Technology and Physical Sciences is organized into four departments, each headed by a department chair: (1) mechanical and civil engineering, (2) electrical engineering and computer science, (3) technology, and (4) physics, chemistry and math. The Bachelor of Science degree in computer science program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, and the Bachelor of Science degrees in the civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Institution Florida Agricultural and Mechanical
University (FAMU) was founded as the State Normal College for Colored Students, and on Oct. 3, 1887, it began classes with 15 students and two instructors. Today, FAMU, as it has become affectionately known, is the premiere school among historically Black colleges and universities. Prominently located on the highest hill in Florida’s capital city of Tallahassee, Florida A&M University remains the only historically Black university in the 11-member State University System of Florida.
