Scientific

Using scientific language and ma- terials, several artists communicate complex scientific ideas in acces- sible, poetic and even humorous ways. Bringing biology, chemistry, and physics out of the sequestered lab, they invite us to look into how science forms our perceptions of the world.

Kristen Anderson’s works use DNA sampling to raise questions about the relationship of one’s identity and one’s biology. In God DNA, she exhibits the DNA for the part of the brain scientifically linked to spiritual experiences. In Vindication/Excuse, test tubes contain genes for dyslexia, sexual orientation, anger, seratonin levels, obesity, and alcoholism.

Bio Kristin Anderson is a multi-disciplinary con- ceptual fine artist based in New York City and exhibiting nationally and abroad. Communica- tion of concept is of primary importance, and media, space and presentation are selected exclusively per project. Her work creates an oscillation between the role of the image and the role of the viewer. The intention is to make the viewer aware of their thoughts on the subject, and of their reaction to the aware- ness, ideally putting them in a state of mind to contemplate both. She explores the origins, interrelations, interpretations and influences of the concepts of identity, human nature, and society via the similarities and differences in personal experiences.
