10 Spider diagrams

Spider diagrams are better known today as ‘mind maps’, a name that was given to diagrams that link ideas or topics together by Tony Buzan in the 1970s. Spider diagrams can be a useful research tool, for recording, organising and sharing ideas with others.

Two useful tools for creating spider diagrams online are Coggle and Popplet, both of which have free versions and enable online collaboration (although there are many more such tools online).

Online spider diagrams, such as Popplet, that can include written as well as multi media content, such as pictures, audio and videos, can be a powerful way of presenting research ideas. Many tools such as this also allow you to collaborate with other people, so that co- researchers and participants can add links, information and media content.
